There were differing reactions to this book.
To some of us it was beautifully written, a fascinating story which left us with a tremendous feeling of optimism that such a man should now be president of the United States.
He is certainly intelligent and eloquent and by any standards has had a remarkable life.
He examines his own motivation and there is no reason to doubt his apparent honesty,
although for some of us his recollections were just a bit too detailed to ring true and there was a feeling that if ultimately he was seeking the sort of power that comes with such high political office
then maybe he can’t be quite that gentle and sensitive.
His father came in for a good deal of criticism as did the possible over-emphasis on race as a political issue.
Will Obama be able to maintain his integrity in office?
