2nds Place Minor Methods

Little Bob is important as a step up from Plain Bob.
In Plain Bob, the hunting pattern only ever changes at the Lead End, in Little Bob the hunting patterns change both at the Lead End and at the Half Lead, and the Half Leads and Lead Ends are only 4 change rows apart.
For the conductor who can track coursing orders, the bells lead in triplets, 2nds PB., 4ths PB (Pivot Bell) and 6ths PB. 6ths PB goes on to become the next 2nds PB.
This process is true for all 31 Treble Dodging methods in Group e, and in a slightly modified form for the 23 methods in Group h.
Understanding and learning the Place Bell sequences for Little Bob is a step towards performance level ringing as having a Double Place Bell to work towards is valuable when other ringers falter.
Introduction
With pivot bell being place no 4, Little Bob has an interesting calling position sequence, and some short touches are available.
For a true quarter peal length Little Bob does not present sufficient change rows (maximum is 480), so splicing with another minor method is needed.
However, the real value in Little Bob is two-fold, it gives opportunity to ring by watching the treble position, and practise in ringing changing patterns of hunting owing to the disruptive affect of the 4ths place half lead.
The compositions all work for any method in Group e, but a touch of methods such as Hereward Bob, where treble runs to 6ths place, will be 50% longer than if called for Little Bob..
Short touches can be called by calling pattern, beyond that the sixth is commonly used as an Observation Bell.:
